Job summary

Stoke-on-Trent City Council is seeking a proactive Highways Enforcement Officer to protect the highway network and ensure lawful, safe activity on public highways. You will investigate issues, interact with contractors and the public, and take action to secure compliance with street works legislation.

The role emphasises network safety, asset protection and meeting statutory duties, with a focus on problem solving and effective communication.

Qualifications

• Experience in highways, street works, enforcement or regulatory services.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills with stakeholders.
• Capable of investigating issues, gathering evidence and applying legislation.

Responsibilities

• Undertake inspections and investigations relating to unauthorised activities and obstructions.
• Monitor and enforce compliance with highways legislation and permit requirements.
• Liaise with utility companies, contractors and the public to resolve issues.
• Gather evidence, maintain records and prepare reports for enforcement actions.
• Respond to enquiries and provide professional guidance on highway matters.
• Support network management and protect highway assets.
