Highways Design Engineer – Feasibility to Detail

Job summary

Kier Group’s Basingstoke-based design team is looking for a Highways Engineer to support the development and preparation of concept, preliminary and detailed designs for a range of highway projects.

You’ll work with colleagues across disciplines, using AutoCAD to produce designs to DMRB and local authority standards, and you’ll develop options with attention to safety, reliability and environment. This role offers a collaborative environment and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

• A university degree in Civil Engineering, Highways Engineering, or Transportation (BSc, BEng, MSc, MEng).
• Chartered (CEng)/Incorporated (IEng) or working towards chartered/ incorporated with ICE, CIHT or IHE.
• Experience with highways geometry, pavement design, signs & road markings, drainage and vehicle restraint systems.
• Full driving licence and CSCS Card, SMSTS or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Undertake feasibility, preliminary and detailed design of highway maintenance and improvement schemes to DMRB and local authority standards using AutoCAD.
• Collaborate with other design disciplines in Common Data Environments and learn on the job.
• Develop engineering options with consideration to safety, reliability, capacity, maintainability and environment.
• Provide design support to the highways design team and prepare drawings, specifications and calculations.
• Conduct site visits and surveys, maintain client relations and attend meetings as necessary.
