Job summary

Kier Group is seeking a Highways Design Engineer to join the National Highways scheme delivery framework in Salford. You’ll work within the highways design team to develop designs, drawings and supporting documentation for meaningful projects that improve communities.

The role requires IEng/CEng status or progression towards it, strong AutoCAD skills, and excellent communication. You’ll mentor juniors and contribute to technical excellence while delivering quality work.

Qualifications

• Possess IEng/CEng status or working towards professional registration.
• Strong working knowledge of highways design and AutoCAD.
• Experience in problem solving and coordinating design activities.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare preliminary and detailed highway designs in line with procedures for local and national authorities.
• Produce design drawings, schedules and supporting documentation for the schemes.
• Deliver technical and feasibility studies to meet client specifications.
• Conduct site investigations and data analysis from maps, reports and tests.
• Mentor junior staff and promote technical excellence within the team.

Job description

We're looking for an Highways Design Engineer to join our National Highways scheme delivery framework contract team based in Salford, Greater Manchester within the highways sector. Kier Design are a highly regarded Tier 1 Contractor, with a 750 plus strong design consultancy team, recognised as a Top 30 employer on Glassdoor.

Location: Salford, Greater Manchester

Hours: 37.5 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

• Are you…A member of a professional body, IEng / CEng status or working towards
• Competent with a strong working knowledge of civil engineering design software such as AutoCAD
• Experienced in problem solving and managing projects within highways design
• Someone with strong communication and presentation skills
• Passionate about technical competence and delivering quality work

What will you be responsible for?

As Highways Design Engineer, you'll be working within the highways design team, supporting them in producing highways designs, drawings, reports and supporting documentation for the National Highways scheme delivery framework. Your day to day will include:

• Preparing preliminary and detailed designs in accordance with approved design procedures for local and national authorities
• Supporting the Principal Engineer on design duties including production of design schedules, drawings and Health, Safety and Welfare documentation
• Delivering technical and feasibility studies that satisfy client's technical specifications
• Conducting on site investigations and analysing data including maps, reports, tests and drawings
• Mentoring junior staff and contributing towards technical excellence and innovation across the team
