Job summary

Cambridgeshire County Council is seeking a highways inspector/ supervisor in the Alconbury area. You will inspect roads, drainage and other highway assets, identify issues and deliver practical maintenance solutions in collaboration with parishes and residents.

You will also manage maintenance delivery, engage communities, and oversee the Highway Volunteers Initiative, coordinating volunteers to improve local areas while working with a supportive highways team.

Qualifications

• Experience in highways, construction, maintenance or similar field.
• Ability to inspect assets and identify defects.
• Able to organise workload and prioritise tasks.

About the role

This is an exciting new role that combines inspection and supervision, hands-on problem solving, community engagement and operational leadership. No two days will be the same. One day you could be investigating a flooding issue, and the next helping local volunteers improve their community, or delivering highways minor maintenance work.

The role includes highway inspections and supervision, delivery of maintenance works, community engagement and oversight of the Council's Highway Volunteers Initiative.

What will you be doing?

You'll inspect roads, footways, drainage systems and other highway assets, identifying issues before they become bigger problems. You'll investigate reports from residents, carry out assessments on site and help deliver practical maintenance solutions.

Working closely with parish councils, community groups and local residents, you'll help ensure that maintenance activities reflect local needs while meeting required safety and quality standards. You'll also play a key role in supporting and coordinating highway volunteers to deliver improvements in their local areas.
