Job summary

Hardy Mill Primary in Bolton seeks a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (TA4) to support KS1 learning. You will cover classes in the absence of the teacher, lead daily phonics and literacy/maths groups, and respond quickly to cover needs.

The role requires passion for primary education, teamwork, and experience with early reading and additional needs support. Excellent organisation and interpersonal skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Passion for primary education and desire to support learners.
  • Experience leading whole class activities, ideally in Key Stage 1.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team and build positive relationships.
  • Experience supporting children with additional needs, with empathy and adaptability.
  • Excellent organisational skills to manage multiple priorities and adapt to change.
  • Solid knowledge of early reading, phonics and maths.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for whole class cover in Key Stage 1, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning in the teacher's absence.
  • Provide emergency cover at short notice, adapting quickly to support children and maintain a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Lead daily phonics, English and maths groups to strengthen early literacy and numeracy foundations.

REQUIRED: September 2026 or as soon after

HOURS: 32.5 hours per week term time plus 2 days

GRADE: Grade F Scp 17 £31,022 to Scp 23 £34,434 pro rata

ACTUAL SALARY: £22,993 to £25,522 per annum

CONTRACT: Permanent post

Hardy Mill Primary is seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (TA4) to join our vibrant team in Key Stage 1. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in shaping the educational journey of our pupils within a supportive and forward-thinking school environment.

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will be instrumental in supporting the development and progress of children in our Key Stage 1 department. Your role is vital in ensuring continuity of learning and maintaining a stimulating environment for all pupils.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for whole class cover in Key Stage 1, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning continues seamlessly in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Provide emergency cover at short notice, adapting quickly to support children and maintain a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Lead daily phonic, English and maths groups, helping children build strong foundations in early reading and numeracy.

  • Confidence in following teachers’ planning and providing emergency cover at short notice.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, allowing you to communicate effectively with both children and adults.
