Job summary

A Knowsley primary school is seeking an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join the Year 6 class from September 2026. This full-time, long-term role offers the chance to support pupils preparing for SATs and the move to secondary education, with a strong focus on attainment and inclusion.

You will work with the Year 6 teacher, deliver planned lessons, lead small group interventions, monitor progress and provide feedback to staff.

Qualifications

• Experience as HLTA or similar in a primary setting.
• Ability to deliver planned lessons to Year 6 pupils.
• Experience supporting SATs preparation and school transition.
• Must be able to undergo safeguarding checks (DBS) and provide references.

Responsibilities

• Support teaching and learning within a Year 6 classroom.
• Deliver lessons and cover classes in teacher's absence.
• Lead small group and one-to-one interventions.
• Support pupils in SATs preparation and secondary school transition.
• Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to staff.
• Promote positive behaviour and inclusive learning environment.
• Work with colleagues, parents and external agencies as required.

Are you an experienced and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant looking for your next opportunity in a supportive primary school environment?

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Knowsley for a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team from September 2026. This is a full-time, long-term position supporting pupils within a Year 6 class, helping them prepare for their transition to secondary education and achieve their full potential.

The Role

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the Year 6 class teacher, to support learning across the curriculum. You will be confident delivering planned lessons, leading interventions, and supporting pupils both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Supporting teaching and learning within a Year 6 classroom
• Delivering lessons and covering classes in the teachers absence
• Leading small group and one-to-one interventions
• Supporting pupils in preparation for SATs and secondary school transition
• Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teaching staff
• Promoting positive behaviour and an inclusive learning environment
• Working collaboratively with colleagues, parents and external agencies where required
