The school supports secondary and post-16 pupils with a range of additional needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other complex needs. Pupils have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), and many have experienced disrupted educational journeys.

Working within a small and nurturing school environment, you will play an important role in helping pupils re-engage with education, develop confidence and make progress academically, socially and emotionally.

The Role:

As an HLTA, you will work closely with teachers and the wider school team to support pupils' academic, behavioural and emotional needs. You will help maintain a calm, purposeful learning environment while providing targeted support that enables pupils to access education successfully.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing targeted 1:1 and small-group learning support
  • Supporting the delivery of lessons and learning activities
  • Helping pupils develop their academic, personal and social skills
  • Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Building strong, consistent and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Adapting learning and support strategies to individual needs and EHCP outcomes
  • Supporting teachers with classroom organisation and pupil progress
  • Promoting independence, confidence and engagement with education
  • Working collaboratively with teachers and other professionals
The Ideal Candidate Will:
  • Have previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, SEMH and/or challenging behaviour
  • Have a strong understanding of the factors that can influence behaviour and engagement
  • Be confident supporting pupils with complex and additional needs
  • Be able to inspire, motivate and build positive relationships with young people
  • Have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Be flexible, resilient and calm when managing challenging situations
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary school team
  • Be committed to improving outcomes and opportunities for young people
The School Offers:
  • Small class sizes and a personalised approach to education
  • A welcoming and supportive working environment
  • A collaborative and solution-focused team
  • Excellent opportunities for professional development
  • A rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to young people's lives
  • A strong focus on both pupil and staff wellbeing

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or HLTA looking to develop their career within specialist education and work with young people who benefit from consistent, individualised support.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and relevant pre-employment checks.
