Job summary

Freeman Community Primary School in Stowupland near Stowmarket seeks a motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant/Teaching Assistant to support pupils and contribute to an inclusive classroom environment.

You will split time between TA duties from 8:30–12:00 and HLTA tasks from 12:45–15:30, with potential additional HLTA cover paid at the HLTA rate. Closing date is 28 September 2026.

Qualifications

  • Possesses good literacy and numeracy skills (at least GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent).
  • Has the HLTA qualification or is in the process of completing the qualification.
  • Has high expectations of children's behaviour and achievements.
  • Is flexible and enthusiastic in their approach to the children's and school's needs.
  • Understands and supports the principles of inclusion for all pupils.
  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to communicate well with teaching staff, pupils and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching whole classes across the school, with specified work directed by the class teacher.
  • Planning, preparing, delivering and marking learning activities, modifying and adapting activities where appropriate.

  • Salary:HLTA £29,070 - £34,811 per annum pro rata (£10,932 - £13,091 pa actual), TA £25,614 - £26,016 pro rata (£5,187 - £5,268 pa actual)
  • Hours:25 hours per week, (HLTA: 16.25 hours per week, TA: 8.75 hours per week), Tuesday – Friday, 8.30am – 3.30pm, 39 weeks per year
  • Contract:Fixed Term until August 2027, required as soon as possible

Freeman Community Primary Schoolare looking to appoint a motivated and caring Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to play a key role in helping children achieve their full potential. You will be committed to inclusion and will have an attentive and patient manner.

You will be a classroom-based Teaching Assistant (TA) from 8.30am – 12pm and will then take on the role of HTLA from 12.45 – 3.30pm. However, additional HLTA cover may be required on a day-to-day basis and will be paid at the higher rate.
