Job summary

British Steel is seeking a Power Controller for their Scunthorpe site to operate and monitor High Voltage distribution systems from 3.3KV to 33KV. You will ensure safe and reliable operations, comply with HV safety rules, and support the wider Energy team in decarbonisation efforts.

The role requires an electrical apprenticeship or equivalent, plus proven experience with HV equipment and safe work practices. You will lead fault-finding, train others, and communicate effectively under pressure.

Qualifications

• Recognised electrical apprenticeship or equivalent competence.
• Strong experience operating electrical power equipment and safe systems of work.
• Able to communicate effectively across all levels under pressure.
• Ability to multi-task and lead fault-finding processes.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out High Voltage switching operations.
• High Voltage testing and issuing safety documentation within the Central Power Station.
• Monitoring alarms and data systems to maintain reliable operations.
• Direct plant-based personnel with investigations into problems with High Voltage equipment.
• Generating written and electronic reports and influence electrical energy usage by consumers to minimise costs.
• Train, coach and competency test others for High Voltage authorisations.
