Job summary

British Steel in Scunthorpe is seeking a Power Controller to operate and monitor High Voltage distribution systems from 3.3kV to 33kV, ensuring safe and reliable power across site processes.

You will carry out High Voltage switching, testing, and safety documentation, monitor alarms, and lead plant personnel through fault investigations. Candidates should have an electrical apprenticeship or recognised competence, with proven experience in electrical power equipment and safe working practices.

Qualifications

• Experience with electrical power equipment and safe systems of work required.
• Ability to relay and communicate effectively during difficult situations.
• Demonstrated leadership in fault finding and multi-tasking under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out High Voltage switching operations.
• High Voltage testing and safety documentation within the Central Power Station.
• Monitoring alarms and data systems to maintain reliable operations.
• Direct plant-based personnel with investigations into High Voltage equipment issues.
• Generate reports and influence energy usage to minimise costs.
• Train, coach and competency test others for High Voltage authorisations.
