Job Description:
Summary:
We are seeking a skilled HV Grid Engineer to support the connection of utility-scale renewable energy projects to the grid. This role will involve technical design, compliance assessments, utility liaison, and supporting project teams through the full lifecycle of solar and battery storage projects. You will work closely with internal engineering, procurement, and construction teams as well as Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), National Grid, and external consultants to ensure grid compliance and delivery within UK regulatory frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead grid connection design for high-voltage (HV) substations and grid interfacing infrastructure (33kV to 132kV).
• Liaise with DNOs, TNOs, and National Grid for connection applications, offer assessments, and compliance documentation.
• Review and interpret connection offers, grid codes, and ENA documents; provide commercial risk input.
• Prepare Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), protection coordination studies, and grid compliance studies.
• Manage design and specification of HV switchgear, transformers, protection relays, and SCADA integration.
• Ensure all designs comply with UK grid codes (G99/G100), Health & Safety regulations, and IEC/BS standards.
• Oversee or support FAT, SAT, and commissioning of HV systems.
• Coordinate with procurement to select approved HV equipment suppliers and contractors.
• Support internal stakeholders with project planning, budgeting, and risk assessments for grid integration.
• Ensure documentation and submissions for grid acceptance and energisation are complete and accurate.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; chartered status is advantageous.
• 5+ years of experience in HV electrical design and grid integration within the UK renewables or power sector.
• Proven experience with DNO/TNO interface management and UK grid codes (G99, G100, ENA standards).
• Knowledge of HV equipment such as GIS/AIS switchgear, transformers, and protection systems.
• Experience working with SCADA systems, grid control systems, and power system modelling software (e.g., DIgSILENT, ETAP).
• Familiarity with EPC project execution and construction methodologies.
• Strong stakeholder communication skills and the ability to manage technical discussions with utilities.
• Full right to work in the UK and willingness to travel as required to project sites or meetings.
• A passion for sustainability and environmental solutions.
