The Energy Department in a data center is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of power/energy, from strategy and acquisition to operation, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, continuous improvement, innovation, and adherence to NetZero targets. This department secures and strategizes reliable high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) power connections, deploys utility infrastructure, and secures electricity supply agreements, including green and renewable sources, to ensure continuous, non-interrupted power supply supporting business growth.

Position Overview

Vantage is seeking a Junior Electrical Engineer (HV, MFGP, Nuclear & Other Renewable Sources) to support the end-to-end technical aspects of energy infrastructure and multi-fuel generation plants across EMEA. Responsibilities include reviewing and supporting power infrastructure design and delivery, ensuring alignment with VDC standards, utility and customer requirements, and managing stakeholders such as utilities, energy suppliers, contractors, and consultants to meet project timelines and budgets. The engineer will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), supporting design development, specification, review, and EPC contractor management, especially focusing on commissioning and operational transition. Collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver optimized, cost-effective infrastructure and improve design standards is essential.

Essential Job Functions

• Electrical System Design & Innovation: Architect electrical topologies including HV Substations, Cables, Multi Fuel Generation, Modular Nuclear, and renewable sources like Solar, Battery, Microgrids, Wind.
• Support for Substation, MFGP, SMR, Renewables & Cable Design: Review packages, specifications, equipment, utility interfaces, and conduct technical reviews, risk workshops, RFIs, and studies.
• Value Engineering: Conduct value engineering and system recommendations balancing cost and sustainability.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interface with engineering, operations, and construction teams, manage contractors, and coordinate with utility SMEs.
• Customer Support: Assist sales with tours, RFP responses, meetings, and emergency support.
• Project Reporting: Provide weekly updates on progress, risks, and priorities.
• Grid and Regulatory Expertise: Knowledge of local grid, network operators, and regulatory requirements.
• Coordination: Support power-related communications with utilities, OEMs, SMEs, and project stakeholders.
• Project & Design Management: Oversight of project plans, equipment submittals, design, delivery, and commissioning. Reengineer electrical schemes as needed to meet technical, commercial, and regulatory standards.
• Compliance & Efficiency: Ensure compliance with standards and optimize power operations to meet sustainability and NetZero goals.
• Continuous Improvement: Drive lessons learned, best practices, and stay updated on new technologies and regulations.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

• Educational Background: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (Power Major) or equivalent.
• Experience: 2-3 years in HV electrical design and delivery, with preference for HV/EHV systems and data center applications.
• Technical Knowledge: Understanding of EU substation design, IEC, BS standards, utility requirements, and experience with UK National Grid (TP141, LCDAE, CDAE preferred).
• Software Skills: Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, MS Office, BIM360, Navisworks.
• Communication & Leadership: Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills.
• Project Management: Good technical and commercial aptitude, familiar with project management tools.
• Adaptability: Flexible, self-directed, capable of working under pressure across time zones, including remote work or travel.
• Travel & Tasks: 20-25% travel expected, with potential increases; additional tasks as needed.
