Job summary

Driver Hire Edinburgh City are recruiting reliable and experienced HGV Class 1 (C+E) drivers for a Peebles-based agricultural and food distribution operation. This ongoing, ad-hoc role starts early with 5:00am–6:00am shifts, and includes manual loading and Moffett forklift use, plus weekly pay and strong safety standards.

Candidates must have a UK Class 1 licence, Driver CPC, Digital Tachograph Card and at least 2 years of HGV experience; Moffett experience is essential.

Qualifications

• Valid UK Class 1 (C+E) licence.
• Driver CPC certificate.
• Digital Tachograph Card.
• Minimum 2 years HGV driving experience.
• Moffett experience is essential.
• No more than 9 penalty points; no DD/DR/CD/IN endorsements.

Driver Hire Edinburgh City are currently recruiting reliable and experienced HGV Class 1 (C+E) Drivers for a well-established agricultural and food distribution business based in Peebles.

Our client operates a busy delivery operation, supplying customers across Scotland. They are initially looking for drivers to provide ad-hoc cover and support, with the intention of finding drivers who could potentially move into an ongoing position.

This is a great opportunity for drivers who want to start with flexible ad-hoc work and potentially secure regular, ongoing work with the client.

This is a physically demanding role involving regular manual lifting and unloading. Moffett experience is essential.

The Role

Your duties will include:

• Driving HGV Class 1 vehicles safely and professionally
• Delivering agricultural and food products to customers and commercial sites
• Manually loading and unloading goods where required
• Using a Moffett-mounted forklift to load and unload pallets
• Carrying out daily vehicle safety checks
• Ensuring loads are secure and transported safely
• Completing delivery paperwork accurately
• Following transport legislation and company procedures
• Providing a professional service to customers
• Maintaining high standards of health & safety

Training

A full day of training will be required before you can begin driving for the client.

Candidates must be available to attend the training day and successfully complete the required training before undertaking shifts.

Working Hours

• Ad-hoc work to begin with
• Start times typically between 5:00am and 6:00am
• Flexible shifts available depending on client requirements

Physical Requirements

This role involves regular manual handling, so applicants must be physically fit and comfortable with the physical demands of the position.

You must be:

• Comfortable with regular manual lifting
• Physically fit and able to load and unload goods
• Comfortable working in an outdoor/agricultural environment
• Experienced and confident operating a Moffett
• Able to safely load and unload pallets using the Moffett

Pay Rates

PAYE

• £15.50 per hour
• £20.66 per hour after 8 hours

PAYE Advanced

• £17.37 per hour
• £23.15 per hour after 8 hours

Minimum 8 hours' pay guaranteed per shift

What We're Looking For

• Valid UK Class 1 (Category C+E) licence
• Valid Driver CPC

• Previous Class 1 driving experience
• Previous Moffett experience - essential
• Physically fit and comfortable with manual lifting
• Comfortable with regular loading and unloading
• Maximum 9 penalty points
• No DD, DR, CD or IN endorsements
• Reliable, punctual and professional
• Strong focus on safety and compliance
• Good communication and customer service skills
• Available to complete a full day of training before starting

Drug and alcohol testing may be carried out during induction and on a random basis throughout employment.
