Job summary

Gravity Media in High Wycombe is looking for a Base Shunter to support our vehicle fleet, manoeuvring HGVs between our High Wycombe site and the Oxfordshire maintenance facility.

This permanent, full-time role offers regular weekday hours, minimal long-haul work, and the chance to stay close to one location while using your HGV skills in a steady, team-based environment.

Qualifications

• Must have HGV1 / LGV C+E driving licence.
• Good driving record and experience with shunting/coupling trailers.

Responsibilities

• Manoeuvre HGV vehicles within company premises and between sites.
• Conduct vehicle safety checks in line with road traffic requirements.
• Refuel vehicles using company fuelling facility and keep fleet clean.
• Assist with minor maintenance tasks and report faults.
• Couple and uncouple trailers as required and support yard operations.
• Utilise forklift for moving materials when trained and qualified.

JOB TITLE: Base Shunter

ABOUT THE ROLE

A BRIEF SUMMARY

As a Base Shunter, you will play an important role in supporting our vehicle fleet operations, manoeuvring HGV vehicles within our High Wycombe base and between our Oxfordshire maintenance facility.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HGV driver who values a predictable working pattern, local driving, and a professional, supportive team environment. Unlike many driving roles, this position offers regular weekday hours, minimal long-haul driving, and the opportunity to remain closely connected to one location while continuing to utilise your HGV skills.

Weekly hours:Shift patterns – 7:30-16:00 or 10:00-18:30, Monday to Friday

Role type:Permanent, full time

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

The primary daily duties will be the manoeuvring of HGV vehicles at and between our various company premises. A careful, considerate, and detailed approach is required.

When not driving, the role will also entail supporting the fleet with various other duties such as:

• Full compliance with vehicle safety checks in line with road traffic requirements
• Effective communication with all team members
• Refuelling of vehicles using company fuelling facility
• Cleaning/washing of Fleet assets as required
• Minor maintenance tasks such as bulb changes and reporting faults
• Coupling and uncoupling of trailers as required
• Any other duties deemed appropriate, such as yard cleanliness
• Forklift Truck operation (subject to training/qualification)

THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE

• A HGV1 / LGV C+E Driving licence
• Excellent driving skills (particularly within confined spaces) with a clean driving record
• Previous experience operating HGV / LGV vehicles in a professional environment
• Experience of vehicle shunting, trailer movements, or yard operations
• A Digital Tachometer card
• A Full CPC Licence

• An ability to work independently with minimal supervision
