Job summary

Walsall Council seeks an experienced HGV Technician/Fleet Mechanic to service, repair and maintain a varied municipal fleet including refuse vehicles, road sweepers, gritters and vans.

You will work in a structured environment with a 37-hour week, clear progression, and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme. The role offers overtime opportunities and generous annual leave as part of a permanent contract.

Qualifications

• NVQ or City & Guilds Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
• Experience maintaining and repairing HGVs or commercial vehicles in a professional workshop.
• Full UK driving licence class 1 and 2 would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out routine servicing, PMIs and MOT preparation.
• Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults.
• Undertaking preventative maintenance to keep vehicles safe and roadworthy.
• Completing repairs efficiently to minimise downtime.
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records and documentation.
• Ensuring work complies with health and safety requirements and vehicle standards.
• Collaborating with colleagues to maintain operational fleet effectiveness.
