Job summary

Russell Taylor Group is seeking a skilled HGV Night Shift Technician to join our busy commercial vehicle workshop in Ipswich. You will service, diagnose and repair a range of heavy vehicles during a permanent night shift, working independently with accuracy and safety.

The ideal candidate will have City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills, and experience with modern diagnostic equipment. A full UK driving licence is essential.

Qualifications

• City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
• Proven experience as HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic or Commercial Vehicle Technician.
• Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills.
• Experience using modern diagnostic equipment.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Experience with manufacturer-specific diagnostic systems advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic faults on commercial vehicles.
• Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs to manufacturer standards.
• Use modern diagnostic equipment to identify and rectify faults.
• Complete scheduled safety inspections and identify additional repairs.
• Repair and replace faulty components and vehicle parts.
• Work on mechanical, electrical and subsystem faults.
• Follow the repair process from diagnosis to completion.
• Complete job cards and workshop documentation accurately.
• Ensure all work is carried out safely and within timescales.
• Support other Technicians in the workshop.
• Carry out inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship and vehicle safety.

HGV Night Shift Technician

Hours: 44 hours per week

Shift Pattern: Tuesday - Friday, 7:30pm - 7:00am

The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced HGV Night Shift Technician to join a well-established commercial vehicle workshop. You will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, diagnosing and repairing a range of commercial vehicles to a high standard. The role requires a confident and experienced technician who can work independently, accurately diagnose faults and complete repairs safely and efficiently. This is an excellent opportunity for an HGV Technician looking for a permanent night-shift position within a modern workshop environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic faults on commercial vehicles.
• Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs to manufacturer standards.
• Use modern diagnostic equipment to identify and rectify vehicle faults.
• Complete scheduled safety inspections and identify any additional repairs required.
• Repair and replace faulty components and vehicle parts.
• Work on mechanical, electrical and vehicle subsystem faults.
• Follow the repair process from initial fault diagnosis through to completion.
• Complete job cards and workshop documentation accurately.
• Ensure all work is carried out safely, efficiently and within agreed timescales.
• Support other Technicians within the workshop where required.
• Carry out inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship and vehicle safety.

Requirements

• City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
• Previous experience working as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, Truck Technician or Commercial Vehicle Technician.
• Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills.
• Experience using modern diagnostic equipment.
• Previous experience working on commercial vehicles, trucks or heavy vehicles.
• Ability to diagnose faults with minimal supervision.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to follow workshop procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
• Good communication skills.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Experience with manufacturer-specific diagnostic systems would be advantageous but is not essential.
