Job summary

Amey is recruiting a permanent HGV Mechanical Technician for the Fleet & Plant team at the Charnock Richards depot. The role supports National Highways’ winter maintenance fleet with service, diagnostics and repairs on a specialist vehicle fleet.

You will work in a safety‑critical environment, with training provided and opportunities for professional development within a leading infrastructure business.

Qualifications

• City & Guilds or NVQ in HGV level 3 (preferred).
• Full UK Driving Licence (HGV Class 2 preferred but not essential).
• Experience working on commercial vehicles.
• Knowledge of DVSA maintenance standards.
• Experience in winter maintenance vehicles, gritters or specialist highway maintenance equipment.

Responsibilities

• Service, maintain, diagnose and repair National Highways winter maintenance fleet (training provided for winter maintenance equipment).
• Work within the workshop and Mobile Service Vehicles (MSVs) as required.
• Perform maintenance in line with manufacturer guidelines and DVSA standards.
• Use diagnostic equipment to identify electrical, mechanical and hydraulic faults (training provided).
• Test functionality of vehicle systems and components.
• Complete job cards and maintenance records.
• Carry out road tests to confirm safety and performance.
• Provide roadside support and breakdown assistance when required.
• Ensure safe use and maintenance of all tools and equipment (specialist tools supplied).
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
• Adhere to all legal, compliance and Operator Licence requirements.
• Follow Health & Safety procedures at all times.
• Work collaboratively and share knowledge across the team.
