Job summary

SRG Recruitment Ltd are hiring for Class 1 / C+E / LGV1 / HGV1 drivers for day and night work in Southampton. A well-known haulier offers year-round shifts across days, nights and weekends, with a mix of container, port, refrigerated and general haulage work.

Roles include container collections, deliveries from Southampton Port, and depot transfers. Drivers with container/port experience are encouraged to apply. Uprate and PAYE options available.

Qualifications

• Full HGV Class 1 / C+E / LGV1 licence.
• Proven UK Class 1 HGV driving experience.
• Container / port / dock experience preferred.
• Valid Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card.
• Good understanding of Drivers' Hours and WTD.
• No DD, DR, DG or IN endorsement codes.
• Good understanding of the English language, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Drive HGV Class 1 vehicles (Day & Night).
• Container haulage and container transport work.
• Deliver shipping containers to customer sites, warehouses and distribution centres.
• Complete delivery paperwork and PODs; use PDA systems.
• Carry out daily vehicle checks and report defects.
• Follow delivery schedules and planned routes; comply with Drivers' Hours and WTD.

CLASS 1 HGV DRIVER - DAY & NIGHT WORK - SOUTHAMPTON

Are you looking for a new Class 1 HGV driving role in Southampton?

SRG Recruitment Ltd are seeking experienced Class 1 / C+E / LGV1 / HGV1 Drivers for both day and night driving work with a well‑known haulier based in Southampton.

Our client can offer year‑round work for the right candidates, with a variety of shifts available across days, nights and weekends.

The role will include a mixture of container, port, refrigerated / fridge, curtain‑side, general haulage, trunking and distribution work. Drivers with previous container or port experience are particularly encouraged to apply.

THE ROLE

• Driving HGV Class 1 / C+E / LGV1 / HGV1 vehicles
• Day and night Class 1 driving positions available
• Container haulage and container transport work
• Container collections and deliveries from Southampton Port and surrounding depots
• Port, dock and container terminal work
• Collecting and delivering shipping containers to customer sites, warehouses and distribution centres
• Experience with container trailers / skeletal trailers advantageous
• Refrigerated / fridge trailer work
• Delivering palletised and caged goods
• Multidrop deliveries and collections
• Trunking and depot‑to‑depot work
• Curtain‑side / curtainsider and tautliner work
• General haulage and distribution work
• Loading and unloading goods where required
• Checking and securing containers and loads correctly and safely
• Completing delivery paperwork, PODs and using PDA systems
• Carrying out daily vehicle checks and reporting defects
• Working to delivery schedules and planned routes
• Following all Drivers' Hours, Tachograph and WTD regulations
• Customer‑facing deliveries and professional communication
• Working safely and efficiently across local, regional and national routes

CONTAINER & PORT WORK

Previous experience in container haulage, port work, dock work or shipping container deliveries is highly desirable. Drivers who have experience collecting containers from Southampton Port, container terminals, freight depots, distribution centres or customer sites are encouraged to apply.

Container driving experience may include shipping containers, skeletal trailers, container trailers, port collections, dock deliveries, container swaps, import/export containers, empty container movements and general container haulage.

REQUIREMENTS

• Full HGV Class 1 / C+E / LGV1 licence
• Proven UK Class 1 HGV driving experience
• Container / port / dock experience preferred
• Refrigerated / fridge work experience preferred
• Multidrop and delivery experience advantageous
• Curtain‑side / tautliner experience advantageous
• Valid Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card
• Good understanding of Drivers' Hours and WTD
• No DD, DR, DG or IN endorsement codes
• Good understanding of the English language, both written and spoken
• Reliable, flexible and professional approach to work
• Good geographical knowledge and route‑planning awareness
• Comfortable working both independently and as part of a transport team

SHIFTS & RATES

Various day and night shifts are available, including weekend work.

Umbrella Rates:

• Days: £20 per hour Monday to Friday
• Nights: £24 per hour Monday to Friday
• Guaranteed 10 hours per shift Monday to Friday
• PAYE rates available on request
• All rates inclusive of holiday pay
