Job summary

Polar Speed, a UPS company, is seeking a Class 1 driver for night shifts based in Normanton, WF6. The role involves delivering pharmaceutical consignments to GP surgeries, pharmacies, and hospitals across the UK, maintaining cold-chain conditions and providing excellent customer service.

You will work 40 hours per week on a night schedule (1800–0330) with potential for extra hours to meet urgent service requirements. A pension and UPS Perks At Work are offered.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years driving experience.
• Driver CPC qualification up to date.
• Must hold a Class 1 (CE) licence (ideally ≤6 points).
• Excellent organisation skills and ability to work on own initiative.

Responsibilities

• Manage scanning of packages/pallets to delivery vehicle.
• Ensure safe, secure loading of all consignments.
• Assist with loading/unloading deliveries with equipment.
• Maintain correct temperature in vehicle at all times.
• Conduct vehicle safety checks including refrigeration unit.
• Keep cab and chambers clean and report defects.
• Communicate delays or delivery failures to line manager promptly.
• Deliver and collect pharmaceutical consignments to GP surgeries, pharmacies, hospitals and wholesalers.

HGV Class 1 Driver Nights

Salary: £40,469 p/a

Night allowance: £14.74 per night = £3835 p/a, total salary including night allowance £44,304 p/a

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday - 40 hours per week

Working hours are between 1800-0330 (40 hours)

The company specialises in active temperature-controlled deliveries to hospitals, pharmacies, wholesalers and medical care surgeries as well as to end patients which it serves through its homecare business. Its customers include some of the best known pharmaceutical brands in the world.

As a delivery and collection driver, you’ll make collections and deliveries to GP surgeries, retail pharmacies, wholesalers and hospitals. You will also be required to make deliveries to patients and on occasion assist them with the rotation and return of stock items, for this we are looking for applicants who can demonstrate excellent levels of customer service.

As a delivery driver you’ll work a minimum of 40 hours per week and must be flexible and prepared to work additional hours as and when required to meet our service requirements which may be of an urgent medical nature.

As a delivery and collection driver you may expect to work on average 40-48 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing the scanning of packages or pallets to your delivery vehicle when applicable.
• Ensuring the safe and secure loading of all consignments to your vehicle using the appropriate equipment.
• Assisting with the loading and unloading of deliveries using the appropriate equipment.
• Ensuring the vehicle is always kept at the correct temperature.
• Conducting vehicle safety checks as outlined in documentation providing including the refrigeration unit on the vehicle.
• Maintaining the cleanliness of both cab and chambers.
• Reporting all defects as per the defect reporting process.
• Adherence to all legislation governing HGV driving in the UK & IRL.
• Ensuring the drivers card is downloaded upon completion of each shift.
• Always demonstrating a professional and safe driving competency.
• Always be smart and presentable.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Delivering and collecting pharmaceutical consignments to addresses including GP Surgeries, Retail Pharmacies, Hospitals and Wholesalers.
• Communicating all operational delays or delivery/failures to the line manager as soon as possible.
• Correct completion of EPOD/driver manifest/collection/refusal paperwork.
• Driving as per your planned schedule.
• Additional tasks may be requested by the Line Manager appropriate to the skills and responsibilities of a Class 1 driver.

Specialized Knowledge

• A minimum of 2 years driving experience.
• Driver certificate of professional competence (CPC) qualification in date.
• Must hold a class 1 (C&E) Category driving licence (ideally no more than 6 points).
• Previous experience is advantageous.
• Excellent organisation skills with the ability to prioritise.
• Team player mentality with the ability to work on own initiative
