Job summary

The Calanais Visitor Centre is seeking a part-time Site Caretaker to keep the venue clean, safe and welcoming for visitors and staff. The role combines cleaning, caretaking, grounds maintenance and general maintenance to uphold high standards at this internationally significant site.

This 20-hour-per-week post (five days with possible Saturday) offers flexible hours; the fixed-term contract runs until 31 March 2027, with potential extension for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Experience in a janitorial, caretaking, facilities, maintenance or similar role.
• Ability to undertake general maintenance and practical repair tasks.
• Ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
• Good understanding of workplace health and safety.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to undertake the physical requirements of the role, including lifting, carrying, bending and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Flexible approach to working hours, including occasional early morning, evening or weekend work.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning and housekeeping in public, staff and operational areas.
• Facilities and maintenance tasks across the site and grounds.
• Grounds maintenance to keep the Visitor Centre grounds well presented.
• Health, safety and security duties including routine checks and emergency procedures.
• Support visitor experience and assist with events and site operations.
