Historic England is the public organisation that safeguards England’s heritage and provides expert advice to protect and enhance historic places. We invite applications for the role of Inspector of Historic Buildings and Areas, a maternity cover, full‑time post based in London with hybrid working, serving the South East region.

The role focuses on delivering statutory and advisory guidance, supporting communities and authorities, and contributing to the Places strategy while upholding

Qualificações

• A good understanding of secular and ecclesiastical history and the morphology of places.
• A good understanding of relevant Government policy, guidance and the planning system, including LBC and EE
• Broad and extensive experience of managing change to historic buildings and areas
• An ability to think creatively, negotiate and influence in order to achieve good outcomes
• Ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences and adapt communication style
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team

Responsabilidades

• Take delegated responsibility for the delivery of Historic England’s advice on proposals for change in the historic environment.
• Provide advice to owners, local authorities and others to proactively work towards the sustainable management of the historic environment.
• Contribute to specific projects where their expertise would add value, for example as part of the Historic England Places strategy.
• Apply the ethos of ‘constructive conservation’ and Conservation Principles in advisory work.
