Job summary

Government Recruitment Service in Bedford is seeking a Heavy Vehicle Technical Officer to assess complex heavy vehicle applications, ensuring compliance with statutory testing and DVSA standards. The role supports front line staff, operators, manufacturers and other agencies, delivering timely expert technical advice.

You will work with technical standards and legal assessments, contributing to continuous improvement while maintaining safety and high service levels across vehicle testing

Responsibilities

• Provide professional assessment of heavy vehicle statutory test applications for both first test and vehicle conversion, checking reports and supporting documentation, ensuring compliance.
• Undertake assessment of applications of approved vehicles via the ECWVTA teams.
• Provide technical support to non-technical processing teams and act as an advisory service to front line staff, operators, manufacturers, trade organisations, other agencies as well as the public on DVSA and related services.
• Investigate possible solutions to solve issues or mitigate risks.
• Collaborate with the Vehicle Policy Team on new initiatives and developing new requirements and standards.
• Communicate with internal and external customers to ensure clear understanding of requirements and deliver concise replies via the technical inbox.
• Provide support to the Heavy Vehicle Processing Manager and represent DVSA at events.
• Maintain relevant databases as required.
