Job summary

Vale of Glamorgan Hearing Resource Base at Cogan Primary School, Penarth, requires a Learning Support Assistant (Level 3) to support pupils with hearing loss and help them access the curriculum. You will work in class and in small groups, delivering tailored support to enhance learning.

The role involves DBS/EDP checks, BSL level 2 or willingness to attain, and a 30-hour week within a Grade 5 spine 8–12 framework with pro rata salary £27,709–£29,542 per year.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of the different educational and social needs of pupils with hearing loss and additional learning needs
  • Previous and recent experience working with children in a school setting
  • Ability to support pupils with hearing loss across all curriculum areas
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Able to work independently with initiative but also as part of a team
  • Good organisation skills
  • Willing and able to learn new skills
  • Ability to promote pupils' independent learning
  • Good general standard of education including English and Maths GCSE

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with hearing loss in the classroom and resource base
  • Provide in-class support for individual pupils and small groups
  • Assist with outreach work and progression across steps 1-3
  • Contribute to inclusive teaching and communication strategies
