Job summary

Oak Lodge School in London is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant with strong BSL skills to support our D/deaf pupils. 32.5 hours per week for 39 weeks (TTO), 8:30am to 3:30pm including a ½ hour unpaid lunch break. Start date ASAP.

The role requires BSL Level 3, TA experience in a school setting, and experience with deaf/language-impaired children. You will create BSL resources, support learning activities, and collaborate with teachers, therapists and families.

Qualifications

  • BSL Level 3 is essential.
  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a school setting.
  • Experience working with deaf and/or language-impaired children.
  • Experience using BSL to support communicative learning.

Responsibilities

  • Using BSL to support pupils’ communication, understanding and access to learning.
  • Supporting pupils in learning activities, adapting communication strategies as needed.
  • Creating BSL resources and visual materials for D/deaf learners.
  • Supporting pupils to develop BSL skills and confidence in sign language.
  • Providing personal care and implementing individual programmes.
  • Supervising and supporting pupils during swimming.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and families.
  • Promoting inclusion, independence and positive behaviour.
