Job summary

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust is seeking Healthcare Support Workers to join Lowton ward, a medical assessment unit. The vacancy includes two 36-hour-per-week posts and one 23.5-hour-per-week post with a rota across days and nights.

We value a patient‑centred approach and require you to support nursing teams, assist with daily care, and help maintain ward operations. Roles may involve secondment terms and a potential move to permanent in the future.

Qualifications

• Right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship is required.
• Unrestricted right to work in the United Kingdom.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with washing, dressing, personal care, beverages and/or meals.
• Assist qualified nursing and medical staff where requested.
• Communicate with all members of the team to maintain a good service provision.
• Ensure that all patients are able to meet their hygiene needs, providing a level of assistance appropriate to the individual.
• Prepare and support the patient appropriately during any activity that is to be undertaken.
• Alert the registered nurse where you notice any changes in the patient’s health and well-being or any possible risks.
• Ensure effective use of material resources/supplies within the ward/unit in consultation with senior staff.
• Assist with the general cleaning and restocking of resources where appropriate as well as cleaning and preparing patients beds.
• Contribute to own personal development and take an active part in learning opportunities.
