Job summary
To assist and support the Dermatology staff in the safe, effective delivery of outpatient care. To assist, support, and deliver that care without direct supervision in close liaison with clerical and medical staff to ensure the smooth running of clinics within the Department.
To be approachable and able to present oneself in an effective, polite, and helpful manner at all times.
Orientate and welcome patients, visitors, relatives, and new staff to the area.
To answer the telephone, deal politely and appropriately with all callers, and transmit messages accurately to staff, patients, and colleagues.
To be aware that any information regarding any patient is private and confidential and must remain so.
To communicate effectively with patients, relatives, visitors, and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
Ensure that patients are kept informed of any delays or problems in clinics and keep information boards up to date.
Ensure that complaints and problems are dealt with in the first instance and reported to the nurse in charge.
Participate in self-development in keeping with the Trust's individual performance review system.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and forward-thinking Healthcare Assistant to join our Dermatology team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The successful post holder will be able to provide an efficient and flexible service that supports the clinical staff in delivering an effective outpatient service, maintaining a patient-centred approach that supports patients in exercising choice.
The post is for 37.5 hours per week on a permanent basis.

Mobility
In accordance with the individual's ability, support patients to meet their mobility needs and prevent the hazards of immobility by providing supervision and assistance where necessary.
Promoting patient comfort by ensuring appropriate seating is available.
Elimination
In accordance with the individual's needs, support patients to meet their elimination needs by assisting with toilet facilities, changing clothing if incontinent, and performing catheter and stoma site care.
Maintaining a safe environment
Ensure departmental equipment is cleaned and well maintained, report repairs, adhere to patient isolation requirements, and dispose of blood, blood products, and sharps safely. Support resuscitation efforts following training.
Communication
Support effective communication by answering enquiries politely, participating in meetings, supporting patient transfers, and preparing medical notes for outpatient appointments. Liaise with the multidisciplinary team and act as a role model, providing informal education and support.
General
Demonstrate commitment to personal and professional development, complete mandatory training, provide guidance on legal and professional responsibilities, adhere to Trust policies, and understand research applications.
