Job description

Band 2/3 Healthcare Assistant required for Danesbury Neurological Centre

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly, supportive multidisciplinary team. You will work alongside trained nursing and therapy staff, assisting in the day-to-day care and management of patients to ensure they receive safe, high-quality nursing care on our Neurological Rehabilitation unit in Welwyn.

We invite individuals to apply for a band 2 CSW role. Support and guidance will be provided to complete a care certificate, with the opportunity to progress to a band 3 CSW role upon successful completion of Hertfordshire Community Trust Band 3 CSW competencies.

Applicants can also apply directly for a band 3 CSW role. Evidence of a care certificate must be provided at interview, and support will be given to complete the necessary competencies.

This vacancy does NOT meet the salary threshold for sponsorship.

We are unable to offer this job to candidates on Student Visas.

Main duties of the job
  1. Undertake personal care duties such as bathing, toileting, dressing, supporting with meals, and assisting patients with their activities of daily living.
  2. Maintain a clean, tidy, and accessible bed space, ensuring patients have what they need within easy reach.
  3. Practice safe standards of care following Trust guidelines and policies, maintaining focus despite occasional interruptions.
  4. Ensure care complies with infection prevention and health and safety policies.
  5. Update patient records accurately, including fluid intake/output, nutrition, height, weight, and age.
  6. Develop skills to facilitate patient self-care and independence.
  7. Maintain equipment and supplies, reporting faults as necessary.
  8. Work effectively as part of a team.
To progress to a band 3
  • Perform patient observations such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature, respirations, blood glucose, and GCS.
  • Collect and test urine samples.
  • Assist with wound care, including swaps, observations, and dressings.
  • Remove peripheral cannulas and perform urinalysis.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will carry out patient care activities under supervision, maintaining privacy and dignity. The role involves working a rotational shift pattern, including long days and night shifts, covering all days of the week, including weekends and bank holidays.
