Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking a caring Healthcare Assistant to join the District Nursing Team in Glasgow. The role supports registered nurses in delivering high-quality home care, helping patients maintain independence and wellbeing across community settings.

The post covers 28.8 hours per week on a permanent basis, with a shift pattern including weekends and public holidays. A SVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or equivalent is required, plus strong communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• SVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or equivalent experience.

• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Attend staff meetings and clinical and mandatory training.

• Provide basic life support for patients in emergencies.
• Work within divisional and local policies to ensure safe working practices.
• Maintain good relationships and an empathetic approach to patients and carers.
• Refer to a senior nurse for questions or guidance on patient condition or complaints.
• Assist with induction of new staff and participate in audits as required.
• Support patients, families and carers to achieve optimum health and independence.
• Apply a systematic, flexible approach to problem solving where barriers exist.

Job description

The role

We are looking for a caring and motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our District Nursing Team. You will support registered nurses in delivering high-quality care to patients in their own homes and community settings, helping them maintain their independence, health and wellbeing.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will undertake a range of delegated clinical and personal care duties, support community clinics, assist with stock management and maintain accurate records. The role requires excellent communication skills, compassion, and the ability to work independently while providing person-centred care to patients with a variety of healthcare needs.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Health and Care Worker visa. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

• Location based in Glasgow City HSCP
• Permanent Contract
• Part-time hours (28.8 hours per week)
• Shift pattern for this post is Monday to Sunday, including weekends, public holidays and out-of-hours shifts.

Key responsibilities

• The post holder will attend staff meetings and clinical and mandatory training.
• Participate in systems of practice support and personal development planning.
• Ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act and ensuring patient confidentiality.
• The post holder will have the skills to undertake or assist with patients in emergencies by providing basic life support.
• Work within divisional and local policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure maintenance of safe working practices for patients and colleagues.
• Maintain good relationships and use an empathetic approach to patients and carers.
• Refer to a senior member of the nursing team for any questions they may have on the patient's condition or for any suggestions or complaints that they wish to raise.
• Participate with other multidisciplinary/multi-agency staff who may require to gain an overview of the health care assistant role and assist with the induction of new staff into the team
• Participate in audits required for organisational activity.
• As a member of the District Nursing team, the post holder will be able to support patients, families and carers to achieve their optimum health and independence.
• The post holder will use a systematic, flexible approach to problem solving where there are either barriers to understanding or financial constraints within the patient's home, to assist with the delivery of an effective care package

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job

Essential Criteria

• SVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or equivalent experience (or willing to undertake training)
