Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking a part‑time Support Service Assistant to maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff. The role covers domestic and catering services with a core cleaning remit in health centres.

You will follow NHS Scotland Cleaning Specification, rotate across clinical areas, and use cleaning machinery. Training is provided, and a driving licence is helpful.

  • Training in use of all machinery (Training provided).
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety (Training provided).
  • Knowledge of COSHH (Training provided).
  • Knowledge of Lifting and Handling (Training provided).
  • Basic Food Hygiene certificate (Training provided).
  • Knowledge of Infection Control practices (Training provided).
  • Driving licence is necessary for driving tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Follow agreed cleaning work schedules, methods and procedures as per NHS Scotland Cleaning Specification.
  • Rotate around clinical areas and departments to provide high quality service.
  • Use mechanical cleaning equipment and inform supervisor of material requirements.
  • Wear protective clothing and sign off daily/weekly sheets for areas of work.

Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. The role:

The predominant purpose of the Support Service Assistant role is to provide a quality domestic and catering services ensuring that a clean and safe environment is maintained for patients, staff and visitors. Please note within the Health centres it is a core cleaning service only.

You will be following agreed cleaning work schedules, methods and procedures in accordance with NHS Scotland National Cleaning Specification and Healthcare Acquired infection (HAI_ Task Force Code of Practice)

There is the requirement to rotate around our clinical areas and all departments, Present an efficient, high quality service to patients and staff, follow specific schedule of work relating to defined areas. There is the requirement for you have a flexible approach to daily routine. There will be the use of economic and safe use of cleaning agents, following manufacturers recommended instructions.

You will use of mechanical cleaning equipment. You should inform Supervisor of requirements for work materials as required and check delivery of cleaning supplies and equipment. You will wear protective clothing as supplied by the Department and complete all daily/weekly sign off sheets for areas of work. All necessary training will be offered to ensure your working environment is safe, and you are confident within your role.

Driving licence would be beneficial.

Band 2 roles are not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa routes.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

This is a permanent, part-time post of 15.2 hours per week.

The role is based at Pollok Health Centre.

The shift pattern is 16.45-20.00 Monday-Thursday, Friday 16.45-18.57.
