Job summary

Practice Plus Group is recruiting a Healthcare Assistant for HMP New Hall in West Yorkshire. The role is full time (37.5 hours weekly) with day and night shifts, including weekends. You'll work across wings, clinics and health promotion, delivering high-quality care and handling bloods, observations and ECGs.

The position offers training, a bespoke induction and clear career development, in a supportive, challenging environment that prioritises patient care and safety.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
  • Experience in healthcare settings is preferred.
  • Clinical skills such as venepuncture, ECGs and NEWS2 where applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure continuity of care for all patients and deliver outstanding care at all times.
  • Carry out bloods, observations and ECGs as part of routine checks.
  • Work across inpatient, clinics, primary care and health promotion areas.
  • Respond to emergency situations as needed.
  • Collaborate with nurses, nursing associates and pharmacy staff.
  • Deliver personalised, non-judgemental care based on patient feedback.
  • Contribute to care packages and health promotion activities.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the team at HMP New Hall, a female prison and young offenders institution (YOI) in Flockton, West Yorkshire.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the team, and work in a varied environment, where you will gain experience across primary care, including emergency response, working on the wings, clinics, health promotion, and more! No 2 days are the same in this challenging, yet rewarding and supportive environment.

Please note that this is a clinical role, and we need candidates that are competent in skills such as Venepuncture, ECGs, NEWS2 etc

Hours

This is a full time role, working 37.5 hours per week. We deliver healthcare 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, so shifts will include days and nights. You will typically work one week of nights per month (3 shifts in that week), and around 2 weekends per month.

Salary

This position is full time , you'll receive an annual salary of up to £29,723 per annum.

What you'll be doing

As our new Healthcare Assistant, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:

  • Ensure continuity of care for all patients, and deliver outstanding care at all times
  • Carry out bloods, observations, ECGs etc
  • Work across all areas of care, including inpatients, clinics, primary care, health promotion, bloods etc
  • Respond to emergency situations as needed
  • Work holistically with your patients and other healthcare staff, including nurses, nursing associates, pharmacy etc
  • Deliver personalised, non judgemental care, based on patient feedback
  • Contribute to, and implement care packages, assist with health promotion, wellbeing and clinics

Our new Healthcare Assistant will
  • Hold a NVQ Level 2 / 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or equivalent
  • Have experience within a healthcare setting - hospital, community or secure setting
  • Have clinical experience, such as bloods, observations, physical health checks, ECGs etc
  • Any experience in primary care or inpatients would be a bonus!
  • Have a non-judgemental and compassionate approach
