Practice Plus Group is recruiting a Healthcare Assistant for the primary care team at HMP Kirkham. You will support clinics, assist with pharmacy operations and respond to emergencies in a secure setting.

The role offers part-time hours (32/wk) with a salary based on 32 hours, plus a range of benefits and development opportunities. A flexible schedule includes days, evenings, weekends and night shifts where applicable.

Qualifications

• Experience in a clinical setting such as hospital or prison is preferred.
• Care Certificate or NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care is desirable.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the primary care team at HMP Kirkham.

HMP Kirkham is a Category D / Open prison for males in Kirkham, Lancashire. This role sits within our Primary Care team, where you will support with clinics, work with pharmacy and respond to emergency situations - no 2 days are ever the same!

Salary

£21,808.64 - £25,363.63 per annum - actual salary based on 32 hours per week

Hours

This position is part time working 32 hours per week, 4 x 8 hour shifts per week.

Shifts are:

• Weekdays - 8am - 4:30pm / 10:30am - 7pm
• Weekends and Bank Holidays - 8am - 12pm

Around 1 in 3 weekends, and both days are worked. When working a weekend, you will work 3 weekday shifts.

Shifts are worked on a rotational basis.

Please note, this role requires flexibility and will include unsociable hours, such as evenings, weekends, and night shifts where applicable.

What you'll be doing

You will support a range of clinical and operational activities, including:

• Running and supporting healthcare clinics (bloods, observations, ECGs, NHS Health Checks)
• Working in reception (Early Days in Custody), carrying out basic health assessments and blood‑borne virus screening
• Supporting health promotion and wellbeing initiatives
• Acting as pharmacy second checker and assisting with medication rounds
• Working collaboratively with nurses, GPs, and wider healthcare professionals

What We’re Looking For:

• This is a clinical role, so ideally you will have experience in at least some of the following: Bloods (phlebotomy/venepuncture), ECGs, NEWS2, Health Checks, Physical Observations (obs), Wound Care etc
• Experience of working within a clinical setting, such as a hospital (A&E would be a bonus) or a prison / secure setting
• Care Certificate and/or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care
