Job overview

The Healthcare Worker is a vital member of the multidisciplinary team, responsible for:

  • Providing competent care under supervision, aligned with the patient's care plan.
  • Understanding patient needs over a 24-hour period.
  • Maintaining a safe workplace by adhering to relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Following Trust policies and local protocols.
  • Working across the 4 wards at St Martins Hospital.
Main duties
  • Accurately recording and reporting patient behaviour and risks.
  • Documenting care provided and omissions.
  • Supporting therapeutic observations as instructed.
  • Promoting a safe environment and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Supporting new team members.
  • Demonstrating professionalism and aligning with Trust values.
  • Providing compassionate care to patients and their families.
  • Completing required training and participating in supervision and appraisals.
  • Working confidently in diverse environments and maintaining flexibility across a 7-day pattern.

Responsibilities and expectations
  • Deliver patient-centered care promoting independence.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, and carers.
  • Support and advise patients and carers.
  • Encourage patient involvement in therapeutic activities.
  • Provide physical health checks and document findings.
  • Complete day-to-day tasks as allocated.
  • Undertake training and participate in supervision.
Person specification
Qualifications, knowledge, and experience
  • Care-related qualification and relevant experience.
  • Experience in healthcare, social care, or mental health support with direct care.
Additional experience
  • Understanding of mental health conditions relevant to the setting.
  • Customer-facing experience.
