Job summary

Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs seeks a Health Unit Coordinator to support the Hastings Nursing team. The role focuses on managing physician orders in the electronic health record, coordinating calendars, and facilitating communication across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology to understand orders and medical records.
• Ability to accurately transcribe and enter doctor orders into the EHR.
• Effective written and verbal communication for staff and residents.
• Strong customer service skills in person and by phone.
• Data entry accuracy for resident care information.
• Typing and keyboarding to compose correspondence and maintain records.
• Valid driver’s license or ability to travel between Hastings and Minneapolis.

Responsibilities

• Maintain calendars for care conferences and coordinate scheduling.
• Direct phone communication between disciplines and nursing staff.
• Organize and schedule outside vendors for phlebotomy and radiology.
• Notify residents and families about appointments and in-house scheduling.
• Support fax/scanned communications and EMR integration.
• Assist with Health Information duties and processing physician orders.
