Job summary

The Ministry of Justice is seeking a dedicated Health, Safety and Fire Practitioner for a part‑time role based in Maidstone. This position offers pro‑rata salary and flexible working arrangements, with visa sponsorship available for eligible applicants.

You will provide first‑line advice, coordinate administration, and work with stakeholders including Senior Management, staff, prisoners, contractors, and visitors to ensure timely investigations and effective HS&F management across establishments.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in health, safety, and fire management in a complex setting.
• Ability to investigate incidents, collate sensitive information, and record evidence.
• Experience managing fire safety in line with legislation and policy.
• Strong advisory and training skills for diverse stakeholders.
• Right to work in the UK or eligibility for Skilled Worker sponsorship.
• Ability to conduct frequent HSF tours and identify areas of concern.

Responsibilities

• Manage and assure accident, assault, near-miss, and fire incidents with complex investigations.
• Administer DSE training and assessment software; perform DSE assessments.
• Advise managers on ergonomic assessments for complex cases.
• Support risk management delivery within the HSF&L Governance Strategy.
• Advise senior management on dangerous conditions requiring immediate action.
