Job summary

Alexander Steele Recruitment are working exclusively with an established manufacturing business that is looking to appoint a Health, Safety & Environment Advisor to support its operations across two sites. This is a hands-on position working with the Health & Safety Manager to develop and embed HSE standards, systems and processes.

You will have at least 2 years of HSE experience in manufacturing or a fast-paced environment, NEBOSH National General Certificate, and strong communication skills to

Qualifications

• At least 2 years’ experience in Health, Safety & Environment within manufacturing, engineering or semi-industrial environments.
• NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent) and good working knowledge of current HSE legislation.
• Experience across risk assessments in COSHH, PUWER, manual handling, fire safety and general workplace risks.
• Ability to advise employees, managers and senior stakeholders and support policy development.

Responsibilities

• Carry out site inspections, risk assessments and reviews across COSHH, PUWER, manual handling and general workplace risks.
• Support investigations into accidents and near misses, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Monitor HSE performance and data, produce reports and identify improvement opportunities.
• Provide practical HSE advice and support policy and management system development across two sites.
• Deliver HSE training and promote a proactive safety culture across sites.
• Ensure contractors comply with HSE standards and controls.
• Support Environmental compliance including waste, pollution prevention and energy management.
• Keep up to date with HSE legislation and support improvement projects.

Job description

Alexander Steele Recruitment are working exclusively with an established manufacturing business that is looking to appoint a Health, Safety & Environment Advisor to support its operations across two sites.

This is a hands-on position working closely with the Health & Safety Manager and wider management team, supporting the continued development of Health, Safety and Environmental standards, systems and processes across the business.

The role would suit someone who already has practical HSE experience within a manufacturing, industrial or similarly fast-paced environment and is looking to take on a broad position where they can make a genuine impact.

About the role

Working across both sites, you will provide day-to-day Health, Safety and Environmental support while helping to drive a proactive safety culture across the business.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out site inspections, risk assessments and reviews across areas including COSHH, PUWER, manual handling and general workplace risks, ensuring appropriate controls are in place and communicated effectively.
• Supporting investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes, maintaining accurate records and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
• Monitoring HSE performance, accident trends and compliance data, producing reports and using findings to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Providing practical Health, Safety and Environmental advice to employees, managers and senior stakeholders, while supporting the development and review of policies, procedures and management systems.
• Delivering HSE training and supporting managers and employees in building a strong, proactive safety culture across both sites.
• Ensuring contractors working on site comply with required Health & Safety standards, procedures and controls.
• Supporting Environmental compliance across waste management, pollution prevention, spill response, water usage, drainage and energy, ensuring appropriate systems and controls are maintained.
• Keeping up to date with relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and supporting improvement projects to ensure the business continues to meet current legal and best-practice standards.

Candidate requirements

We are looking for someone with at least 2 years experience working within a Health, Safety & Environmental position, ideally within a manufacturing, engineering or semi-industrial environment.

You should also have:

• A NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent recognised Health & Safety qualification, with a good working knowledge of current HSE legislation.
• Practical experience across risk assessments and key areas including COSHH, PUWER, manual handling, fire safety and general workplace risk.
• A good understanding of Environmental responsibilities including waste management, pollution prevention, water and energy management.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to work with and advise employees, managers and senior stakeholders.
• Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage priorities, maintain accurate records and work effectively in a busy environment.
• A proactive, investigative and improvement-focused approach, with strong attention to detail and the confidence to challenge working practices where appropriate.
• It would be advantageous to have experience or qualifications relating to ISO 45001, ISO 14001, Environmental management, Fire Safety or further NEBOSH study.
