Health & Safety Business Partner: 23781

Working closely with the Utilities business unit to ensure that H&S best practices are fully embedded into each operational area. Encouraging others to fully own H&S and supporting them to make the right decisions by providing professional H&S advice.

This is a hybrid role involving working from home on key projects, attending customer and contractor site meetings, working on build sites, and attending meetings at Arqiva offices. The candidate must be based in the following locations as the role involves frequent interaction with our customers:

Location: East of England - Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Essex, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire

Role Purpose:

Ensuring that H&S best practices are fully embedded into all activities at a business unit level and that the risk of harm is minimized.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Build and nurture effective relationships with key customers, contractors & internal stakeholders to embed within the business partner function
  • Partner with function leaders (L2) to integrate safety into daily operations and foster a culture of safety ownership
  • Create and maintain collaborative and effective relationships with internal & external customers including suppliers
  • Constructively challenge ways of working and decisions to ensure H&S risks are managed or mitigated
  • Attend site visits & customer & contractor meetings/workshops to ensure H&S expectations are met
  • Provide specific and expert advice and support training/coaching as needed
  • Facilitate risk assessments for new products, projects, and technologies
  • Lead H&S investigations as required, especially for high potential and injury incidents
  • Use performance data to update business managers on ongoing performance, driving action and improvements
  • Lead and facilitate working groups to focus on specific H&S challenges and develop procedures and actions to improve
  • Adhere to demand management processes, actively prioritize work orders, and communicate regularly
  • Ensure ISO45001 requirements are effectively implemented in the business partner function
  • Support BIDs and mobilization of new work or projects as needed
  • Own and lead on key risk areas within the business, with expertise in at least one area

Desired professional / academic / technical knowledge & experience:

  • Grad member IOSH or working towards
  • NEBOSH Diploma or working towards
  • Technical knowledge of CDM, StreetWorks, work at height, electrical, and asbestos hazards and legal requirements
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient in prioritizing multiple tasks and assessing risks
  • Environmental awareness
  • Ability to influence and engage others
  • Significant experience as a safety professional in utilities, construction, or telecoms industries
  • Experience managing contractors & subcontractors
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Driving Licence - required
