Job summary

Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust is seeking health care support workers to join the children’s unit on Sarum Ward and Woodlands Day Assessment. You will work under nurses to deliver compassionate care to children aged 0-16 and their families in a busy hospital setting.

The role includes basic clinical observations, ward cleaning, supporting nutrition and hygiene, and safeguarding within a supportive multidisciplinary team. Training and supervision are provided.

Qualifications

  • Care Certificate or equivalent qualification in their healthcare setting.
  • GCSE English and Maths grade 4+ required.
  • NVQ Health or Health and Social Care Level 2 or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children and young people in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience of working as a Health Care Assistant (HCA).
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic clinical observations and report concerns to a nurse.
  • Assist with daily ward cleaning tasks.
  • Support children with nutrition and hygiene needs.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide compassionate care.
  • Respect patients and families, upholding safeguarding procedures.

Job description

We are looking for health care support workers / assistants who are passionate about working with children and young people . The ideal candidate will be a keen team player with experience working with children in a hospital environment . The position will involve working as part of our multidisciplinary team on our vibrant children's unit at Salisbury Hospital ensuring the delivery of high standards of care to young patients and their families. Our children's unit consists of Sarum Ward and Woodlands Day Assessment unit, all designed to create a bright and welcoming environment for children and young people. The ward has 16 in patient beds for children aged 0 - 16 years of age , providing specialised care for a range of specialities including general paediatrics , orthopaedics , ENT and general surgery. Working as a health care support worker / assistant you will always work under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered nurse providing compassionate care to children and their families . Responsibilities within this role include basic clinical observations reporting any concerns to a trained nurse , daily ward cleaning tasks and supporting children with nutrition and hygiene needs ., Working under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered nurse , providing compassionate and high quality care to children young people and their families . You will recognise your abilities and limitations of your competence to carry out only those tasks for which you are trained . As a member of the ward team you will support the other staff , act in the best interests of patients and treat everyone with respect .   • Care Certificate
