Job summary

Stockport NHS Trust seeks a Senior Healthcare Assistant to support nursing teams in delivering high quality, patient-centred care. The day case unit operates Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 9:00 pm and cares for patients across general surgery, urology, gynaecology, orthopaedics, ENT and Maxillofacial.

You will assist with patient care before theatre, care for patients post operatively, perform post-operative observations and ensure safety, cleanliness and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare with involvement in quality improvement, audits or research.
  • Experience working in a healthcare organisation.
  • Experience of caring for patients.
  • Knowledge of infection control & safeguarding processes.
  • Able to work on own initiative following direction by a Registered Healthcare Practitioner.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient care activities under supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Maintain safety, cleanliness and tidiness of the ward area.
  • Carry out duties to deliver ward care and routine household management.
  • Maintain patient dignity and support multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide high quality, patient-centred care and effective communication.

Job description

The Senior Healthcare Assistant role is key to ensuring that our nursing teams are supported to deliver consistently, high quality, patient centred care. The day case unit is open Monday to Friday, 7AM till 9PM. The unit cares for patients from all specialities including general surgery, urology, gynaecology, orthopaedics, ENT and Max fax. You will be expected to support staff to ensure patients are prepared for theatre. You will help care for patients post operatively, carrying out post operative observations and meeting patients needs., As a healthcare Assistant you will be expected to work within our dedicated multi-disciplinary teams and be involved in providing individualised care whilst contributing to the safety and cleanliness of the environment and keeping good documentation.   • To communicate effectively with the multi-disciplinary team, under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • To carry out routine administrative/telephone related tasks.
  • To communicate effectively when giving/receiving verbal and written information.
Responsibility for Patient Care
  • Under the supervision of a registered nurse to assist with patient care activities.
  • To maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • To carry out any tasks required to maintain the safety, cleanliness and tidiness of the ward area.
  • To carry out duties as required, meeting all aspects of ward care.
  • To carry out routine household management/maintenance activities.
  • To maintain patient dignity.
  • Work closely with other healthcare professionals in order to provide patients with exceptional care.

Experience of supporting Quality Improvement /audits / research and development activities

The role would include working alongside a multidisciplinary team, providing high quality, patient centred care to a wide range of patients. The successful candidate would need to be motivated, organised and possess outstanding communication skills. Candidates should enjoy working in a team environment, work well under pressure and have a flexible approach to work.

  • Experience working in a healthcare organisation.
  • Experience of caring for patients.
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Computer skills.
  • Able to work on own initiative in delivery patient care, following direction by a Registered Healthcare Practitioner.
  • Functional skills minimum Level 2 Maths and English or GCSE equivalent or working towards.
  • Completed the National Care Certificate
  • Worked at a band 2 Health Care Assistant level or equivalent, Working towards or prepared to work towards obtaining an Apprenticeship in Clinical Healthcare.
  • Awareness and understanding of importance of confidentiality
  • Knowledge of Infection Control & Safeguarding processes
