Job summary

Referment is working with a leading specialist contractor to appoint a Health & Safety Advisor supporting major construction projects across the Oxford and Reading area.

This is a fully site-based role for an experienced Health & Safety professional who enjoys being visible on projects, working closely with operational teams and helping to maintain high standards across complex construction environments.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience in health and safety within construction.
• Experience across civil engineering, infrastructure or structural work is valuable.
• NEBOSH Construction or equivalent qualification.
• Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation.
• Ability to challenge unsafe practices and influence teams.
• Site-focused approach with strong working relationships.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day health and safety guidance to site and project teams.
• Carry out regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
• Support the development and implementation of project-specific health and safety plans.
• Review risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
• Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe practices, identifying corrective actions.
• Deliver briefings and support workforce engagement on health and safety matters.
• Monitor subcontractor compliance and promote high safety standards.
• Produce clear reports and contribute to safety performance improvements.

You will provide practical advice and support to project teams, carry out inspections and audits, investigate incidents and ensure that health and safety requirements are understood and consistently applied on site.

The Role

• Provide day-to-day health and safety guidance to site and project teams.
• Carry out regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
• Support the development and implementation of project-specific health and safety plans.
• Review risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
• Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe practices, identifying appropriate corrective actions.
• Deliver briefings and support workforce engagement on health and safety matters.
• Monitor subcontractor compliance and promote consistently high standards across the project.
• Produce clear reports and contribute to ongoing improvements in health and safety performance.

What We're Looking For

• A minimum of five years’ experience in a Health & Safety role within a construction environment.
• Experience within civil engineering, reinforced concrete, infrastructure or structural construction would be particularly valuable.
• A recognised health and safety qualification, ideally NEBOSH Construction or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction industry requirements.
• The confidence to challenge unsafe working practices and influence teams at all levels.
• A practical, site-focused approach and the ability to build effective working relationships.
• A full UK driving licence.
• The ability to work on site five days per week in the Oxford and Reading area.
