The role is site-focused with regular travel throughout Scotland and close collaboration with project teams, contractors and clients.

Essential qualifications include NEBOSH General Certificate and proven H&S experience in construction or related sectors. IOSH membership is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide competent and practical health and safety advice to project managers, site teams, supervisors and contractors.

  • Support RAMS development, review and implementation for projects.
  • Assist with Construction Phase Plans, Health & Safety Plans and related documentation.
  • Identify hazards and provide recommendations to improve site standards and control risk.
  • Investigate incidents and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Monitor contractor health and safety performance and report findings.

Job description

We are seeking multiple experienced and proactive Health & Safety Advisors to join our clients growing team, supporting the safe delivery of renewable energy and infrastructure projects across Scotland.

Based from our clients head office in Glasgow, you will provide professional health and safety advice across a diverse portfolio of projects, including onshore wind farms, substations, electrical infrastructure, grid connections and associated civil and construction works.

This is a site-focused role, requiring regular travel across Scotland and the ability to build strong working relationships with project teams, contractors, subcontractors and clients. You will play a key role in promoting a positive health and safety culture and ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with relevant legislation, company standards and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide competent and practical health and safety advice to project managers, site teams, supervisors and contractors.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits and safety tours across projects throughout Scotland.
  • Monitor compliance with health and safety legislation, company procedures, construction plans and client requirements.
  • Support project teams in the preparation, review and implementation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Assist with the development, review and implementation of Construction Phase Plans, Health & Safety Plans and associated project documentation.
  • Identify hazards and provide practical recommendations to improve site standards and control risk.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences, ensuring appropriate corrective and preventative actions are implemented.
  • Support project teams with incident reporting and lessons-learned processes.
  • Monitor contractor and subcontractor health and safety performance.
  • Participate in project meetings, toolbox talks, safety briefings and pre-start meetings.
  • Provide advice on high-risk construction activities, including excavation, lifting operations, temporary works, electrical works, working at height and plant/machinery operations.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness and ensure appropriate emergency arrangements are established and tested.
  • Review and monitor environmental and occupational health considerations where these interface with health and safety.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, incidents and corrective actions.
  • Produce clear and concise health and safety reports for project and senior management.
  • Promote a strong Zero Harm culture and encourage positive safety behaviours across project teams.
  • Keep up to date with changes in relevant legislation, guidance and industry best practice.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the company's health and safety management systems.

The role will involve regular travel to project sites across Scotland, with occasional overnight stays required depending on project location and programme.

Essential
  • Proven experience working in a Health & Safety Advisor or similar role within construction, infrastructure, energy or engineering.
  • Relevant health and safety qualification, such as NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent.
  • Good working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction health and safety requirements.
  • Experience undertaking site inspections, audits and investigations.
  • Experience reviewing or developing RAMS and other project health and safety documentation.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also supporting wider project teams.
  • Strong organisational and reporting skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
  • IOSH membership.
  • Experience within the renewable energy, utilities, power, civil engineering or major infrastructure sectors.
  • Experience working on wind farm, substation, grid connection or electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations and experience operating within a construction project environment.
  • Experience working with principal contractors, subcontractors and multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage/electrical construction environments.
  • Temporary Works, lifting operations or working-at-height experience.
  • Environmental or occupational health experience.
