Job summary

Anderselite Ltd is seeking a Health and Safety Advisor for construction/civil engineering projects in the North-West. The role focuses on developing policies, training staff, and ensuring regulatory compliance across sites.

You will conduct risk assessments, lead on-site inspections, and manage incident investigations while promoting a strong safety culture with contractors and suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement health & safety policies and procedures.
• Support Head of HSW to ensure compliance with legislation and best practices.
• Provide training to staff and contractors on health and safety.
• Carry out risk assessments to identify hazards and controls.
• Inspect construction sites to ensure compliance and identify improvements.
• Investigate incidents and near misses to determine root causes.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Collaborate with site managers and contractors to promote safety culture.
• Maintain records of incidents, inspections, and training.
• Identify areas for improvement in health and safety performance.
• Contribute to strategic planning for health, safety and environmental needs.
• Interface with HSE Management Team and produce management reports.
• Ensure contractors and suppliers comply with HSE requirements.
• Monitor housekeeping and review risk assessments and safe systems of work.
• Audit permit to work processes and ensure PPE compliance.

Job description

Health and Safety Advisor - construction/civil engineering - £50k-£55k+car allowance/benefits - well established construction contractor working on varied projects across the North-West.

Key Responsibilities:

• Developing and Implementing Health & Safety Policies:
• Support the Head of HSW, to create, manage and monitor comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures that comply with relevant legislation and industry best practices.
• Training and Education:
• Providing training to staff and contractors on health and safety procedures, hazards, and emergency protocols.
• Risk Assessments:
• Conducting thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement appropriate control measures.
• Site Inspections and Audits:
• Regularly inspecting construction sites to ensure compliance with health and safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
• Incident Investigation:
• Investigating accidents and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Compliance:
• Ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and regulations.
• Communication and Liaison:
• Working with site managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to promote a positive health and safety culture.
• Data Management:
• Maintaining accurate records of health and safety incidents, inspections, and training.
• Continuous Improvement:
• Identifying areas for improvement in health and safety performance and implementing strategies to address them.
• Strategic Planning:
• Contributing to the development of strategic plans for health and safety within the organization.
• Compliance with HSE legislation and the health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Interface, communicate, liaise, and maintain effective relationships with HSE Management Team.
• Produce reports and identify remedial action, ensuring effective implementation.
• Ensure that Contractors employees, sub-contractors and suppliers all work in accordance with health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Monitor housekeeping standards across the Contract, identify and implement improvement activities.
• Review and where necessary complete risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
• Audit the permit to work process to ensure that standards are maintained.
• Provide COSHH assessments where required and ensure effectiveness of supply chain documentation.
• Ensure that PPE is being used in accordance with requirements.
• Ensure that health and safety signage and guards are in place and maintained.
• Monitor fire precautions to ensure compliance with standards.
• Ensure that all emergency procedures and requirements are in place and are effective.
• Undertake periodic HSE inspections for compliance to legal standards.
• Support operational managers in the review of Contractors RAMS
