The Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine is seeking a Head of Service for Clinical Technology in Inverness. You will provide strategic leadership across Assistive Technology, Wheelchair Services, Orthotics and Prosthetics, and Clinical Engineering in NHS Highland and the Western Isles.
You will manage a multi-disciplinary team, drive innovation, ensure patient‑focused service delivery, and represent the department in governance and training initiatives.
Applications are invited from suitably experienced and qualified Clinical Scientists / Engineers in Assistive Technology for the post of Head of Clinical Technology located in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. This is an exciting opportunity that includes scientific leadership of Assistive Technology, including Wheelchair Services alongside Orthotics and Prosthetics and Clinical Engineering services in the NHS Highland area as well as the Western Isles. Services managed include approximately 30 staff and trainees. The post also acts as a key point of consultation for the board Research, Development and Innovation division and has a leadership role in the board for aspects of medical devices. The department participates in the Scottish Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Training Scheme with the post-holder among those responsible for supervision of trainee clinical engineers. You will need an appropriate higher qualification and demonstrative relevant extensive experience of practice, in addition to appropriate professional registration. The post-holder is clinical lead for wheelchairs and specialist seating so registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist, with an appropriate level of clinical experience working directly with patients in relevant services, is essential. Professional and strategic leadership are a significant part of the post so highly developed communications, management and influencing skills will be needed alongside clinical, technical and financial skills. Candidates must hold a full UK driving licence.
