Job summary

NHS Highland is advertising for the Head of Clinical Technology at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. The role provides scientific leadership of Assistive Technology, including Wheelchair Services alongside orthotics and prosthetics and Clinical Engineering services in the NHS Highland area as well as the Western Isles.

The post requires a higher qualification, HCPC registration, and extensive clinical experience, plus strong communication, management and financial skills, and a full UK driving

Responsibilities

• Provide scientific leadership of Assistive Technology, including Wheelchair Services with Orthotics and Prosthetics and Clinical Engineering.
• Lead and supervise staff across NHS Highland and the Western Isles (approx. 30 staff and trainees).
• Act as key consultant for the board's Research, Development and Innovation division.
• Contribute to supervision of trainee clinical engineers within the Scottish Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Training Scheme.

Job description

Applications are invited from suitably experienced and qualified Clinical Scientists / Engineers in Assistive Technology for the post of Head of Clinical Technology located in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

This is an exciting opportunity that includes scientific leadership of Assistive Technology, including Wheelchair Services alongside Orthotics and Prosthetics and Clinical Engineering services in the NHS Highland area as well as the Western Isles. Services managed include approximately 30 staff and trainees. The post also acts as a key point of consultation for the board Research, Development and Innovation division and has a leadership role in the board for aspects of medical devices. The department participates in the Scottish Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Training Scheme with the post-holder among those responsible for supervision of trainee clinical engineers.

You will need an appropriate higher qualification and demonstrable relevant extensive experience of practice, in addition to appropriate professional registration. The post-holder is clinical lead for wheelchairs and specialist seating so registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist, with an appropriate level of clinical experience working directly with patients in relevant services, is essential.

Professional and strategic leadership are a significant part of the post so highly developed communications, management and influencing skills will be needed alongside clinical, technical and financial skills. Candidates must hold a full UK driving licence.
