Hallfield School in the United Kingdom is seeking a dynamic Science teacher with a pathway to Head of Science to lead the department and teach Physics and Chemistry up to GCSE. Hallfield School is extending its age range to 16. Our first Year 9 cohort began in September 2026 and our first Year 10 cohort will start in September 2027, taking the School through to GCSE for the first time. This is a rare opportunity to shape the Science curriculum and department of a growing school at a defining point in its history.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed and knowledgeable Science teacher, with a specialism in Chemistry and/or Physics, to lead the development and teaching of Science up to Year 11, delivering outstanding, practical Physics and Chemistry lessons that enthuse and challenge bright pupils to achieve their full potential.
We will consider candidates at two different stages of their career. Please state clearly in your application statement which route you wish to be considered for, or whether you would like to be considered for both.
For an experienced teacher ready to lead the department from September 2027. You will have secondary teaching experience in both Physics and Chemistry up to and including GCSE, a record of strong outcomes, and ideally previous curriculum or departmental responsibility. You will be able to demonstrate strengths in planning, delivering and developing a high-quality curriculum, predominantly for Years 7-11.
For an enthusiastic, qualified Science teacher at the beginning of their career, (including Early Career Teachers (ECTs) coming to the end of their induction period), who has strong subject knowledge and the ambition to become a Head of Science. You would be appointed as a Teacher of Science on the main pay scale and supported through an individual development plan, which would include:
Progression to Head of Science, and the associated allowance, would follow once you are ready and have been formally appointed to the role. Readiness will be reviewed through the School's appraisal process; the timescale is not fixed and progression is not automatic.
