Job summary

Walker Sime in Manchester is seeking a Head of Planning to lead and develop our planning capability across major construction and infrastructure projects. This senior role combines technical planning expertise with leadership, client engagement and commercial awareness to shape the service and grow the team.

You will mentor planners, build relationships with clients and identify opportunities to expand planning services while supporting project delivery.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in planning or project controls within construction, infrastructure or major projects.
• Strong technical understanding of project planning, baselines, critical path, float, progress measurement and recovery planning.
• Experience contributing to business development, including building client relationships and identifying opportunities.
• Ability to provide senior planning advice to project teams and clients and communicate complex programmes clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience leading and developing planning professionals and teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning function, providing technical leadership and direction across projects.
• Oversee development, review and maintenance of robust project programmes and baselines.
• Provide senior planning input on complex projects, supporting project teams and clients with clear, practical advice.
• Review programme performance including critical path, float, progress and delays; provide forecasts.
• Lead, mentor and develop planners, building capability within the team.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients and identify opportunities to expand planning services.
