Job summary

Role Description

The Head of Operations – Engineering is a full-time, on-site role based in West Byfleet, responsible for overseeing day-to-day operational performance across machining, production, and engineering functions. This role leads planning and coordination of CNC operations, ensures effective use of resources, and drives on-time delivery, quality, and safety standards. The Head of Operations will manage and develop engineering and production teams, implement continuous improvement initiatives, and support the integration of new equipment, technologies, and processes. Daily activities include monitoring key performance indicators, resolving operational issues, collaborating with senior leadership on capacity and investment decisions, and aligning operations with customer requirements and regulatory standards. The role also manages budgets within operations, optimizes costs, and supports strategic growth objectives for the business.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong Operations Management skills, including production planning, process optimization, and continuous improvement in a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Candidates should possess solid Analytical Skills to interpret operational data, monitor KPIs, and make evidence-based decisions that improve efficiency and quality.
• Candidates should possess proven Team Management capabilities, including leadership, performance management, and coaching of multidisciplinary engineering and production teams.
• Candidates should possess excellent Communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues, customers, and suppliers, and to clearly convey technical and operational information.
• Candidates should possess Budgeting skills to manage operational costs, forecast resource needs, and support investment planning for equipment and staffing.
• Experience in CNC machining, precision engineering, or similar high-tolerance manufacturing environments is highly beneficial.
• Relevant qualifications in engineering, manufacturing, or operations management (e.g., degree or equivalent experience) are preferred, along with knowledge of quality, health and safety, and lean methodologies.
• Ability to work on-site in West Byfleet and to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, customer-focused setting.
