Job summary

Head of MEP | Major Rail Infrastructure Project

Some MEP roles are about overseeing a package. This one is about leading the delivery of the systems that will make a major new rail facility work.

We’re working with a joint venture delivering a large train maintenance depot and operational control centre in Birmingham. The scheme brings together complex buildings, specialist depot equipment and railway systems. They need a Head of MEP who can take ownership from design development through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.

You’ll lead the MEP team and specialist supply chain, working closely with the project leadership, designers and client. A big part of the job will be getting ahead of the interfaces: making sure the building services are properly coordinated with the depot’s operational equipment, that designs can be built and maintained, and that completed systems work together when it comes time to commission the facility.

The role will involve:

• Setting the MEP delivery strategy across the depot buildings and control centre.
• Leading design reviews, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning.
• Managing specialist contractors, programme risks, quality and commercial performance.
• Resolving interfaces with structures, civil, depot equipment and railway systems.
• Building and leading a capable MEP management team.
• Working with senior stakeholders to deliver a facility that is ready for long-term operation.

We’d like to speak with people currently operating as a Head of MEP, MEP Director, Building Services Director or M&E Project Director on a major infrastructure or technically demanding construction scheme.

Rail depot or station experience would be particularly valuable. We’d also consider someone from an airport, data centre, hospital or industrial project if they have led substantial MEP works through integrated commissioning and handover. You’ll need the technical grounding to challenge decisions, but this is ultimately a senior delivery and leadership role.
