Job summary

Southwark College, in partnership with The Supply Register Ltd. and NCG, seeks a Head of Curriculum Maths for a 1-year contract. Lead a high-performing Maths department, shape curriculum and drive learner achievement on a central London campus.

You will oversee GCSE Maths and Functional Skills for study programme and adult learners, directing planning, quality, and performance management while collaborating across the College and external stakeholders for alignment with skills needs.

Qualifications

• A degree in Mathematics or a relevant professional qualification.
• Significant sector experience.
• Experience leading curriculum teams and improving learner outcomes.
• Strong knowledge of FE quality frameworks, curriculum planning and performance management.
• Experience developing staff to deliver teaching and learning excellence.

Based at Southwark College's vibrant central London campus, you will play a key strategic role in delivering outstanding teaching, learning and assessment, ensuring students develop the skills, confidence and qualifications needed to progress successfully into further study, employment and apprenticeships.

About the Role

As Head of Curriculum Maths, you will provide inspirational leadership and strategic direction for the College's Maths provision, overseeing GCSE Maths and Functional Skills programmes for both study programme learners and adult students.

Leading a team of highly committed teachers and support staff, you will be responsible for curriculum planning, quality improvement, performance management, budget oversight and driving learner achievement. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the College to ensure Maths remains at the heart of student success.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

• Lead and develop an ambitious, high-performing Maths department that delivers exceptional learner outcomes.
• Drive continuous improvement in teaching, learning and assessment, ensuring students achieve their full potential.
• Develop and implement a curriculum that is responsive to local, regional and national priorities and skills needs.
• Use performance data and quality metrics to monitor progress, identify opportunities and deliver measurable improvements.
• Manage curriculum planning, timetabling, staffing and resources to ensure effective and efficient delivery.
• Foster a culture of high expectations, accountability and professional development across the department.
• Build strong relationships with employers, schools, community organisations and external stakeholders to enhance curriculum relevance and student opportunities.
• Support student recruitment, retention, achievement and progression through innovative and learner-focused approaches.
• Contribute as a key member of the College management team, helping to drive the wider strategic objectives of Southwark College and NCG.
