Our Air & Ocean Business Control team has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Head of Finance. You will lead the UK and Ireland team, driving financial performance and cost improvements. As the Head of Finance, you will create, analyze, and present financial reports, forecasts, and budgets for the Air & Ocean team based on financial and operational data.
This pivotal role is multi-functional, focusing on all areas of the business, requiring comprehensive financial freight forwarding knowledge. The role can be based anywhere in the UK or Ireland, with travel to London, Manchester, Liverpool, Tilbury, or Dublin, so flexibility is essential.
Reporting to the Head of Finance Air & Ocean for Northern Europe, you will manage all financial responsibilities for Air & Ocean in the UK and Ireland, working closely with the UKI Accountancy Director. You will oversee weekly and monthly management reports and business reviews, ensuring accuracy and providing insights on past, present, and future performance, highlighting risks and contingencies. You will prepare annual budgets and forecasts, focusing on improving customer profitability, challenging margins, and KPI performance with operational teams and senior management. You will drive operational and commercial improvements, seek opportunities for organic growth and renewals, and support business development activities such as tenders and bids, renewals, capex, and ICAP processes, developing a strong understanding of customer contracts.
You will lead and empower a diverse team of financial professionals, fostering a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and engagement.
You should have proven experience in accounting and reporting, ideally within third-party logistics or freight forwarding. Operational and customer-facing experience, with a track record of implementing improvements, interpreting complex data, and analyzing outcomes, is essential. Building strong stakeholder relationships, challenging the status quo tactfully, and coaching operational management are key skills. You should be detail-oriented and capable of meeting deadlines under conflicting demands. Proficiency in financial systems and MS Office, especially Excel, is required. Qualifications such as CIMA, ACA, or ACCA are desirable but not essential.
