Role Overview

We are seeking a commercially savvy and process-driven Head of Finance to lead our finance function. This is a strategic leadership role with a strong hands-on component. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, developing project-level financial systems, ensuring compliance, owning contract management, and providing strategic financial input across departments.

You will partner with leadership and key functional teams—design, procurement, logistics, and business development—to enable profitable growth, ensure financial discipline, and drive continuous improvement across all financial processes.

Key responsibilities

Finance Operations & Team Leadership

• Oversee day-to-day financial operations including bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, bank reconciliations, and cash flow monitoring.
• Manage and develop the internal finance team (and external accountants where applicable), ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Set and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure financial discipline and reduce risk.
• Ensure timely and accurate invoicing, payment collection, and supplier payments in line with agreed terms.
• Provide leadership, training, and oversight to ensure the finance team delivers high-quality, responsive service to the rest of the business.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes, as well as annual audits and statutory reporting.

Financial Strategy & Leadership

• Develop and implement a scalable finance strategy to support business growth across multiple geographies and service lines.
• Advise the leadership team on financial planning, cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Own and evolve pricing models and commercial strategy in collaboration with Sales and Business Development.
• Design and implement project financial frameworks—including budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking—for design and procurement-led projects.
• Ensure margin visibility and financial accountability at project level.
• Support project managers in financial decision-making and client reporting.

Contract & Compliance Oversight

• Lead contract management processes for client and supplier contracts, ensuring commercial and legal robustness.
• Maintain financial and operational compliance with relevant regulations, tax jurisdictions, and statutory requirements across Europe.
• Liaise with legal and insurance partners as needed to manage financial and contractual risk.

Process & Systems Development

• Evaluate and improve financial workflows, reporting tools, and systems (e.g., accounting software, procurement platforms, project budgeting tools).
• Work with external accountants and finance partners to streamline monthly closes, audits, and filings.
• Act as the financial liaison across departments, providing commercial leadership and training to non-finance team members.
• Support procurement, logistics, and design teams with financial structure, vendor terms, and inventory control.
• Partner with Sales and Business Development to model scenarios and shape strategic decisions.

Requirements

• Proven experience in a senior finance role, ideally in a fast-growing, project-based business (e.g. design, architecture, construction, hospitality, or property development).
• Strong grasp of project accounting, procurement finance, and financial operations.
• Experience with contract negotiation and management, including supplier and client contracts.
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks across European markets (VAT, tax, reporting, etc.).
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking, with an ability to see both the big picture and dive into the detail.
• Comfortable in a hands-on role within a small but fast-moving team.
• Excellent communication, client facing and leadership skills, with a collaborative mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

• ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified or equivalent.
• 10 years accounting and finance experience working across large teams
• Experience working across multiple countries and currencies.
• Proficiency in financial and project management software (e.g. Xero, Sage,, Clickup, or similar).
